AMETHYST

AMETHYST – (Specific gravity - 2.65, refractive index - 1.54)

Amethysts are a lovely deep violet to purple in colour, and are commonly worn as jewellery. These stones are absolutely clear and transparent and are easily available. Amethyst is a semiprecious stone, and is not very expensive. Amethysts belong to the Quartz group of stones. They mostly come from Brazil , Uruguay , United States , Russia , India and Sri Lanka . It is used as a substitute for Blue Sapphire, and is worn on the middle finger. Semiprecious stones need to be bigger in size. Therefore an Amethyst should be of at least six to ten carats in weight, worn usually in Silver, but can be worn in Gold too. Larger stones can be worn in a pendent.

This Gemstone is worn for the mighty Saturn. The colour of Saturn is actually Violet. Even a Blue Sapphire when seen through a prism, shows Violet colour. Amethysts are a good substitute for the Blue Sapphire. For people who cannot afford a Blue Sapphire, Amethyst is the best substitute. Deeper the colour, better the stone. Amethyst is a very effective substitute for Blue Sapphire.
